Track of the Day 25/11: Santogold
Brooklyn bop from Santi White
From yesterday’s beneath-the-radar sorts Cats In Paris to a true queen of pop in 2008…
There’s no doubt about it: this year has been a cracking one for Santi White, aka Santogold. Her self-titled debut album lit up the charts, turning many a sceptical critic onto her dubby hip-hop-pop from the streets of Brooklyn, via Philadelphia.
The record’s spawned a series of singles – ‘L.E.S. Artistes’ was our favourite, until ‘Say A-Ha’ claimed our Single of the Week crown last week. Even though its official release date was yesterday. Confused? Us too.
So, to get some sort of balance, here’s a Track of the Day from Santogold (MySpace) to keep all parties happy – ‘Shove It’ is taken from ‘Santogold’, an album destined to rank in Clash’s end-of-year chart. Right? Right.
