Track of the Day 17/2 - Mountains

Submerge yourself in 'Choral'
_original

Experimental duo Mountains supply today's Track of the Day with the title track from their album 'Choral'.

A very apt name for the near thirteen minutes of ebbing and flowing strings and woozy electronics contain therein. Formed by two friends while at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Mountains is the name chosen to label their live activities and it's a very live concern with the whole parent album recorded live with minimal overdubs.

Reviewing the album, ClashMusic said that Mountains "...are an act that plays on subjective reactions: no one listener will have the experience of another while ‘Choral’ plays out." and "In short: ‘Choral’ is an album to feel, not to sing along to. You can’t hum its melodies, you can’t strum its chords. You sit, and you sink, and you let it rise up around you." You can read the full review here.

'Choral' (the album) is released this week on Thrill Jockey Records. You can hear the title track here on ClashMusic.com below.
