2009 is to see the welcome return of Röyksopp.

The Norwegian duo shot to fame with the 2001 album ‘Melody A.M.’, which spawned the singles ‘Poor Leno’ and ‘Eple’ and sold over one million copies. Album two, ‘The Understanding’, followed in 2006, and they’ll release their third full-length, ‘Junior’, on March 23.

‘Happy Up Here’ is the new album’s opening track, and premiered on Radio 1 earlier this month; it will be released as a single on March 9. ‘Junior’ features vocal contributions from singers including Robyn, Karin Dreijer Andersson (The Knife, Fever Ray) and Lykke Li.

Röyksopp – Torbjørn Brundtland and Svein Berge – have said the following of their new LP:

“Making this new album was like mining in the mountains,” says Brundtland. “When you think of a mine you think of one that is already many kilometres deep, and people work inside it. But sometimes one has to start a new mine, so you start digging the crust of the earth. And we had to find a good spot to start digging.”

“The key,” notes Berge, “is to feel very confident that this digging is starting from deep within. I think the concept here is something that’s inside us.”
