Track of the Day 12/12 - Good Books
Kent indie-rockers reveal a WORLD EXCLUSIVE and play Clash Saturday Social...
What’s this? The fourth band for tomorrow’s Clash Saturday Social @ RoTa AND a world exclusive Track of the Day?
Oh aye. Oh, aye.
Good Books are the men who’ve signed on the line to complete what was already a pretty stellar bill for our first-ever Clash Saturday Social, held at the Notting Hill Arts Club’s weekly RoTa afternoon.
The Kentish four-piece’s 2007 debut album, ‘Control’, attracted critical acclaim and features a wealth of recognisable singles – ‘Walk With Me’, ‘Leni’, ‘Turn It Back’, ‘Passchendaele’. The band – Max, JP, Chris and Leo – are now working on its follow-up, due for release in 2009.
And it’s from this record that today’s world exclusive Track of the Day, ‘Manifesto’, is taken. Stream the track exclusively on ClashMusic.com at the bottom of this article. The track is fresh off the mixing desk – it was completed mere hours ago.
ClashMusic.com asked Max to fill us in on Good Books activity recent past and near future…
“2008 began in style with all four Good Books staying in a flat that doubled up as an art gallery in Berlin, discovering some new music, new friends, new experiences and generally doing a bit of life. The rest of the year was spent writing, rehearsing and recording the next album.
“We played over 100 shows in 2007 but have only played about five this year and we've really missed it, so we'll rectify that next year. The album will be wrapped up by Christmas, so early 2009 we will be plotting and scheming how to get it onto people's stereos, how the sleeve will look and all that sort of thing.
“I can't wait to share the new record with the world. It feels like we have a lot more personally invested in this one than the last; every aspect of it has been our own work, from writing to playing, right down to microphone placement and mixing, so people will really hear the sounds from inside our heads.
“Finally we're planning on doing Europe properly this time round - so there's that to look forward to, as well as festivals in the summer...”
