Track Of The Day 8/12 - Baddies

Post Punk Tykes Return

Baddies have never been afraid of a bit of hard graft.

Releasing their debut album 'Do The Job' in 2009, the band decided to hit the road - and stay there. Playing virtually any venue that would have them, Baddies won a devoted army of fans across Europe.

Finally taking time away from tour duties, the band knuckled down to work on a follow up. Choosing the DIY route, Baddies asked their fans to help fund the recording of their second album.

Help and assistance came flooding in, with Baddies now able to finally dot the i's and cross the t's. Working in Rockfield Studios just outside Cardiff, the band have revealed that new material "is set to be bigger bolder and more exciting than ever."

Provisionally due in March, ClashMusic has been handed a preview. Baddies have escaped from the studio long enough to pop past the office, leaving behind them a neatly packaged CD-R.

'Bronto' is the Latin word for 'Thunder' - perhaps an appropriate way to describe Baddies' return. The London group have kept the visceral feel of their debut, with the new cut boasting a energetic, live feel.

However alongside this Baddies have added electronic elements. Indebted to the post-punk period, the change echoes the movement between Wire Mk.1 and Wire Mk.2.

Take a look at that photo: C60 cassettes, symbol of retro nostalgia, being chewed up by a suited and booted crew of guitar wielding manics. Matching their sharp, disciplined approach to exacting electronics, 'Bronto' is a blistering return.
