Track Of The Day 7/8 - R. Stevie Moore

A couple of lifetimes ago I was living in Los Angeles. I was at a party. How I lived back then, I was often at a party. Where that party was, I have no idea but I do remember whose it was. It was Jason Falkner, local rock god from Jellyfish, The Grays, The Three O'Clock - he'd been signed to Prince's label and had worked with Beck. Anyhow, we were at a party weren't we? Through the cocaine chaos came a song. It cut through the fug ‘Showbiz is Dead’ Ah! Like a tornado it grabbed me, woke me up, slapped me round the face and straightened the tie I wasn't wearing, it dusted me down and took me out of the drudgery of the cocaine conversation.

Who was the superhero with the superpower voice? R. Stevie Moore came the reply, but that's easy when it's written down. I was born in Salford where 'our' is the prefix of anyone in your family's name.

“Our Stevie?”
“Yeah!”
“O.K.”

I wrote his name down and for some reason thought it was the blind guy who played his guitar on his lap. You know, Jeff Healey! Not sure where my mix up came from but that's what mix ups are. They're mixed up.

The next day, nursing a hangover, I went to the, now sadly defunct Aaron's Record Store on North Highland.

I grabbed me a copy of Everything You Needed To Know About R. Stevie Moore But Were Afraid To Ask' - with a title like that, it seemed such a good start point. It cost about 10 bucks and I've been a fan ever since.

Putting this compilation together has been an absolute joy.
The cohesiveness, or is it cohesivosity, is what I'm trying to put over - even though I don't know what the word for it is.

There are many RSM compos and RSM as a human being is.....random, scatty, almost ADHD in a charming way

THIS IS AS CLOSE AS IT GEETS TO GENRE SPECIFIC BEST OF
Now I'm even writing like R. Stevie
