Track Of The Day 6/11 - Great Lake Swimmers
Canadian Newcomers
The gentle tones of Canada’s Great Lake Swimmers can be heard by clicking today’s stream.
‘Palmistry’ is the opening track from the folk rock band’s fourth long-player ‘Lost Channels’, an album in which heartache and comfort is summoned in equal measures by the singular voice of front man Tony Dekker.
‘Lost Channels’ has a visual richness throughout, that seems to soak up the humbling surroundings in which the songs were recorded; the historic and picturesque Canadian/American border.
Designed to conjure imagery of night skies, howling winds and raging rivers, Great Lake Swimmers go some way in succeeding to capture these forces of nature.
At the same time, select recording locations of old churches, community halls, and abandoned grain silos, infuse each track with a vintage aesthetic that taps into local myth and mystery of the area’s most storied landmarks.
