Track Of The Day 5/11 - Joe Goddard
Solo Effort From Hot Chip Producer
You may already know of Joe Goddard if you know of Hot Chip (heard of them? they were on our cover once), or frequent the already-legendary Greco-Roman raves in London, Berlin, and beyond.
As a member of both dance music institutions, Goddard is no stranger to club culture, having seen its complex DNA mutate many-a-time whilst growing up in our nation’s capital; through house, techno, rave, jungle, drum ‘n’ bass, garage, dubstep. Cross-pollinating scenes that the man himself has already traversed on excellent compilations for ‘Bugged Out’ and ‘DJ Kicks’.
‘Harvest Festival’ is his new solo LP, a fruit-themed artist album that celebrates these rich influences without stepping on the toes of his Hot Chip family. Released on his own Greco-Roman imprint, it displays production traits that would have been somewhat out-of-synch with his band’s more traditionally pop (albeit twisted) conventions.
“I wanted to do things that feel a little out of place on a Hot Chip album,” he explains, “like having long instrumental passages and loops. I love crafting short songs with Alexis [Taylor] but I wanted to have a go at other forms of electronic music.”
So, our giveaway for your listening pleasure is a track titled ‘Sour Grapes’. An icey minimal quality to this 6-minute beauty that gives a nod to both Detroit and Berlin... but to witness the full depth and breadth of sounds, I urge you hunt down and listen to ‘Harvest Festival’ in its ripe entirety.

‘Harvest Festival’ is released on Greco-Roman, November 16th.
