New York Soul

Dunno 'bout you, but the ClashMusic office is a big fan of imaginary albums.
Fantasy line ups... unique concepts.... bending the rules of music to suit our every whim. However the new album from ten piece New York outfit Kings Go Forth puts the game into practice.
Signed to David Byrne's Luaka Bop imprint, Kings Go Forth specialise in the kind of stirring soul which most presumed went extinct with the demise of Stax. A powerful live act, the band combine the spiritual flair of the church with some downright naughty moments.
The lead singer is called - get this - Black Wolf. Oh yes, none of this birth name pedantry for him, the frontman deciding to lop off his given name at first opportunity in order to really get in touch with his primitive instincts.
Returning with a new album over the summer, artwork was supplied by reclusive designer Mingering Mike. Inspired by great album designs of the past, this is the first physical product Mike has completed - in the past he simply adorned imaginary albums.
Which brings us neatly full circle. Set to play London's Jazz Cafe on January 13th, ClashMusic can offer album highlight 'One Day' as a free highlight. Go on... you know you want to...
