Bass has become an international language. Spreading out of Kingston - via Brixton - various musical forms are gestating and emerging from territories around the world.
Portugal's immigrant population has led to a huge number of forms merging into one. African entrants bring their homeland styles with them, colliding with traditional Portugese styles and European dance music to create some startlingly new.
Buraka Som Sistema blend all these influences and more into something startling. The band's debut album spawned several dancefloor bangers, with guests such as M.I.A. popping up to add some cultural clout, if any were needed.
The group recently curated a Fabric compilation featuring a ton of new tracks. Amongst the more impressive was the Roulet remix of 'Kurum'. Already a critical point of any Buraka Som Sistema set, the new overhaul has pushed the track onto new heights.
