Track Of The Day 3/2 - Banjo Or Freakout

Guitar music is stagnant, yet out on the margins some innovation remains.

Last year brought Mount Kimbie's debut album, connecting post-rock and bass music. With James Blake's debut full length almost upon us, acts such as Banjo Or Freakout aim to keep the momentum going.

A London based producer, Banjo Or Freakout first came to our attention last year after early mp3s began circulating on Ye Olde Interweb. One half of Kompakt duo Walls, his glitchy electronics are matched distinct rock influences.

Signed to Memphis Industries, debut single '105' was all tremolo guitars, providing a traditional wash for some deeply inventive music. Working on his debut album, Banjo Or Freakout is already being tipped as one of 2011's most vital newcomers.

Taken from the soon to be released new album 'Go Ahead' is a bewildering mixture of organic samples and electronics. Given a nifty remix by Tropics, the track becomes a headspinning psychedelic epic.
