Track Of The Day 3/11 - Robert Hood

Detroit Minimal Overlord

This text will be replaced

A mesh of broken down factories and cleared out housing, Detroit remains a forbidding place.

But beneath the dirt and grime lie some inquisitive minds, probing the possibilities of recorded sound. Following on from the pioneering work of the Belleville Three, mavericks such as Robert Hood took techno into inspiring new realms.

The godfather of minimal, Robert Hood helped found the near mythic beat organisation Underground Resistance. While the perception of minimal tends towards clicks and snaps, Detroit mainman Hood uses smooth grooves that take techno back to its Teutonic roots.

With Kraftwerk playing their first gigs in an age, ClashMusic thought it only appropriate to highlight some of the incredible talent who picked up where those trailblazers left off.

Today's 'Track Of The Day' comes from Robert Hood, and is a belter by the name of 'Superman'. Continually shifting beneath its glacial tones, the track pushes minimal tech forwards without ever losing sight of the producer's deep roots in Detroit music.
