Track Of The Day 28/5 - Bob Dylan

The Hop Farm Takeover

Despite a career lasting almost five decades, Bob Dylan remains a strangely enigmatic figure.

Bob Dylan's early career is peppered with festival shows. The Newport Folk Festival saw the singer unveil his new electric direction, to howls of disdain from the disgusted audience of traditionalists.

Taking time off the road following a motorcycle crash, Bob Dylan returned with an appearance at the Isle of Wight in 1970. Three members of The Beatles were in the audience, as an enormous crowd basked in his music.

However after this Dylan shows a strange reticence to performing at festivals. The singer has rarely agreed to perform, preferring instead the warmth of a headline show.

Yet this summer The Hop Farm has tempted Bob Dylan to dig his tent and portable barbecue out of retirement. Set to play his first UK festival show in forty years, the iconic songwriter will no doubt have a few surprises up his sleeve.

To celebrate, ClashMusic have reached for a classic clip from the archives. Performing at Newport in 1965, Bob Dylan unveiled his new electric outfit to widespread disgust. In an attempt to placate the angry crowds, he was handed an acoustic and told to play a few more tracks.

Asking for an E harmonica, you can hearing folk fans hurling their instruments onstage in a show of support with an icon who was removing himself from their grasp.
