Track Of The Day 2/2 - Human Don't Be Angry

Malcolm Middleton Returns

Malcolm Middleton is - at heart - a guitar player.

Forget about those exacting, heart wrenching lyrics and that off-the-cuff delivery - the boy just wants to play guitar. And on his new project Human Don't Be Angry, Malcolm Middleton does exactly that.

Returning to Glasgow, Malcolm Middleton began sketching out melodies on his six string. Very much a studio bound project, Human Don't Be Angry saw the guitarist hook up with producer Paul Savage.

Responsible for programmed drums, Savage was required to piece together Malcolm Middleton's more ambient urges. As ever, though, the project soon grew arms and legs, with melodies beginning to pour out of every strum.

A sweet - at times nostalgic - record, Human Don't Be Angry's debut offering is apparently partially inspired by Malcolm Middleton's childhood. "It's only recently I've realised how the record is also influenced by my childhood and the 1980s" he said. "Song titles like ‘The Missing Plutonium’, ‘After the Pleasuredome’ and ‘1985’ refer to Back to the Future, Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Live Aid. Obviously Jan Hammer and Iron Maiden are in there too..."

As a special preview, ClashMusic have been granted the stream for the opening track. Titled 'HDBA Theme' the song is almost entirety instrumental, with vocal notes - rather than fully fledged vocal lines - fluttering through the recording.

Mixing Malcolm Middleton's melodic guitar parts with ambient textures, 'HDBA Theme' is a nice tasting session ahead of an intriguing record.
