Track of the Day 19/6 - Speech Debelle - U:Music

We all know that these days it’s easy to make a song sound great on a record, what with limitless takes, auto-tune and other computer wizardry.

But our track of the day here, part of our U:Music coverage, proves that there’s still nothing quite like letting it all hang out and playing live. Speech Debelle put in a magnificent performance of her track ‘Buddy Love’ on yesterday’s show, getting the room to shaking its collective tush with nothing but a bunch of instruments and a handy turn of phrase.

The track, which according to the singer is about the troubles of “falling for your buddy”, is a cheeky fusion of funk, ska and hip-hop which with only double bass, drums, acoustic guitar and vocals creating a tune which is impossible not to nod your head to.

She's playing Glastonbury next week, so if you’re lucky to be down on the most Worthy of farms skip the boss and check out this young blood instead.
