'Cotopaxi' from new LP 'Octahedron'
The Mars Volta

Sometimes Clash’s TOTD stars need zero introduction, and that’s the case today as we’ve got something splendidly new from The Mars Volta.

‘Cotopaxi’ is lifted from the band’s new ‘Octahedron’ album – their fifth studio LP in all, released via Mercury on June 22. Find the record reviewed HERE.

The group – formed around the founding core duo of Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodríguez-López – have been a force for modern progressive-rock since their 201 inception, rising from the ashes of the seminal hardcore act At The Drive-In. With their latest LP the band takes entirely new sonic paths, refining their expansive sound for an accessibly adventurous experience. Evidence enough of this new sound is yours to hear in ‘Cotopaxi’ – enjoy!

The Mars Volta play London’s ICA tonight (June 18, 2009) – tickets are sold out, though, so if you’re not going now you’re probably not going at all.

Look out for a full feature with The Mars Volta in issue 41 of Clash Magazine. Find them on MySpace HERE, where the whole of ‘Octahedron’ appears to be streaming.
