A Very Special Cover Version

The past decade has witnessed a resurgence in naff, a revival of kitsch and a renewal of the unfashionable.
Call it the guilty pleasure, but it now seems to be perfectly OK to admit to a penchant for something out-with the spectrum of cool. Take Groove Armada: once house giants, it seems that the group's tour bus resonated with breezy West Coast sounds, blue eyed soul and bleached out AOR.
Tom Findlay was recently invited to curate an instalment of Late Night Tales, and responded with a typically personal, idiosyncratic mix. Offering a quote, the producer said: “it's very much a 'concept' record, blue eyed soul, yacht rock. Vibe was very much tunes that I used to blast on the tour bus. I love that music in a very wrong way, it's music to hug to!”
In keeping with Late Night Tales tradition, the mix also features a cover recorded exclusively for the release. Tom Findlay and Tim Hutton have hooked up to form Sugardaddy, recording a new version of the Ace classic 'How Long'.
Clearly having the time of their lives, the new version retains every inch of naff which surrounds Ace. But then, that's what makes it so appealing - the absence of irony, the straight faced manner of the performance.
Sugardaddy's version of 'How Long' is set to be released on June 18th, with six - count 'em! - remixes strapped on.
ClashMusic has grabbed an exclusive stream... listen to it now.
Tom Findlay is set to play a special in-store DJ set at Rough Trade East on June 10th, followed by a special launch party at the Big Chill.
