The current glut of 'nu-folk' wannabes has thrown up some fantastic talent alongside some definite chancers.

Naming no names, but more than a few of these troubadours only picked up an acoustic six months ago and are probably already eyeing up the next trend. Actually - that chillwave looks a bit tasty...

Which is why it pleases us to stumble across bands such as Tristram. Based in London, the band have scratchy guitars that hint at a mis-spent youth listening to Pavement records, but alongside this they have a folk indebted songcraft.

Blurring modern and old, the trendy and the traditional Tristram have stumbled across a unique voice. Playing a host of dates across the country, the band entered the studio this summer to work on their debut EP.

The result is a release buoyed by a rare grace. Sure, it's not perfect - few debut offerings are - but Tristram have the potential to become something more. Lyrically, the band are weighed down by a deep sense of British identity but it is more a poetic yearning rather than a ballot paper for UKIP.

Taken from their new EP, 'Rhyme Or Reason' is a quick blast of folk influenced energy. Expect them to storm the festivals next summer, rain or shine.
