Singles Round Up - 9th August
As the troops return from The Big Chill (check out our coverage HERE) we scrape the mud from the laptop and take a look at the singles released this week including efforts from Laura Marling, These New Puritans, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, I Am Arrows and Cee-Lo Green.

Laura Marling - 'Darkness Descends'

Taken from her excellent 'I Speak Because I Can' album, you'll know Darkness Descends' by now as Marling continues to grow into one of the UK's premiere solo artists, female or otherwise. She's up for the Mercury this year which could really bump her up a few deserved notches.

These New Puritans - 'Hologram'

Man, she REALLY enjoys playing the piano eh? (Watch the video if that doesn't make sense yet). 'Hologram' rides a thumping drum tattoo amid fractured piano spurts which all sounds a bit múm-sy or even a chilled cousin of Jonsi's recent solo 'Go Do' single.

Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly - 'Collapsing Cities'

Back with a new sound, it's Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. Not sure it's entirely successful when it it hinges on a breakbeat that must be over ten years old now. Ignoring that , it's a good tune but would probably be as good without the new clothing.

I Am Arrows - 'Green Grass'

Otherwise known as Andy Burrows, previously employed as Razorlight drummer, I Am Arrows finds him upfront for, what has been pointed out patronisingly often, a better than you'd think outing. (I can get away with saying that too 'cause I'm gonna compliment it). 'Green Grass' is good. (See!).

Cee-Lo Green - 'No One’s Gonna Love You'

Always taking the unexpected route, Gnarls Barkley's Cee-Lo Green supplies the first taste of his next solo album with a cover of the Band Of Horses song (From their 'Cease To Begin' album). Replacing the worn out melancholy of the original with a soul/hip hop backing, Green's always fantastic voice at least carries it but really, couldn't they just got him to sing over the original? That'd be good.
