Now Wave: Parklife Weekender Mix

Plus a quick Q&A...

Manchester - music city.

For three decades Manchester has churned out iconic group after iconic group, with the city's music scene continuing to push back the boundaries. Whether it's Factory Records or Wu Lyf, there seems to be an attitude, an approach which marks out Manchester as being somewhat different.

Taking place this summer, the Parklife Weekender is set to fuse Manchester's attitude with a varied line up which touches on indie, electronica, hip hop and more. Clash Magazine will be there, alongside the Now Wave promotion team - responsible for some of the city's more memorable shows of late - who will take charge of their own arena.

We recently tracked down the Now Wave team for a chat, and as a 'thank you' they chucked the site an exclusive mix focussing on their arena at this summer's Parklife Weekender.

How excited are you about Parklife?
Massively excited, the line up for this year's festival is bigger and better than ever and it promises to be an amazing event.

Is this the first time you’ve been involved with the festival?
No, we've been involved in the festival from the beginning, hosting our Now Wave Arena. The Festival is now in it's third year. It's been amazing being involved from the ground up and seeing Parklife grow each year to become what is now an essential event on the musical calendar right across the UK.

What’s been your best memory of the festival so far?
We spend most of our time in our arena running things, so most of our highlights of the festival have come from there. Last year we had a run of three acts in a row; MF DOOM, Jamie xx and Mount Kimbie. The tent was absolutely packed and rocking with an unbelievable atmosphere. It was so good that we've invited Mount Kimbie back this year as well.
I think we can top that this year though with the line up we've put together!

You guys are based in Manchester. What’s your opinion of the music scene in Manchester right now?
Manchester is in a great place musically right now. There are some amazing new bands coming through like Money, Great Waves, D/R/U/G/S and No Ceremony as well as great acts that are more established like Dutch Uncles, Everything Everything and Egyptian Hip Hop.
As well as great bands, there's no shortage of brilliant venues, promoters and club nights right across the city.

The line up for the Now Wave stage is a really eclectic mix of bands and artists, what was the inspiration behind the artists you chose?
As promoters we don't stick to any one kind of music, we just promote the music that we really like. For Parklife we always try to put together a line up handpicking all the best bands and artists we've worked with over the past year as well who we think are currently the most exciting new acts around.

Both days are jam-packed with quality artists. Who are you most looking forward to on each day?
I think the line ups are really strong on both days, it's difficult to pick a standout artist on each day but I can't wait to see Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs bring their massive stage show and dancers to the arena on the Saturday, whilst Factory Floor on the Sunday are definitely not one to miss, they absolutely destroyed The Warehouse Project last year and are one of the best live electronic we've seen in a long time.

You’ve kindly given us a mix to give out on Clashmusic.com. Can you quickly take us through the mix and the music on there?
We've put together a short mix containing what will no doubt be some of the biggest anthems of the Now Wave Arena over the course of the festival. It features some of the key artists as well as some acts that people might not be aware of. My advice to everyone would be to get down early and try and check everyone out!
