Lethal Bizzle On His Love Of Cars
For Clash Magazine's 'Private Passions'
It’s time for another obsession session as we explore the anorak within. This month: Lethal Bizzle reveals his love for cars.
FIRST CAR
“It’s pretty embarrassing; an A-reg Fiat Uno. I bought it from a guy at college because I was sick and tired of getting the train to college. All the cool people used to drive, so I bought it for a hundred quid. She lasted two months, because I crashed her into someone’s back garden fence. I was reversing out some tight road, and obviously I was a bit of an inexperienced driver It had no windscreen-wipers either, so I had to tie a shoelace to the wiper and, when it started raining, if someone was in the car, they’d have to pull it. She was a beauty though; you’ve gotta start somewhere, man.”
CURRENT MODE OF TRANSPORT
“I’ve got a black Ranger Rover Vogue. I’ve also got a BMW 630i convertible and a Bentley GT Mulliner. They’re like my girlfriends, to be honest with you. I’ve named them all. I’m trying to find a name for the Bentley. The Bentley gets the most treatment because she’s fairly new and has been getting the most attention. I give her a nice wash at least once a week, maybe twice. My work car is a Chrysler Voyager, but that’s more for shows and stuff.”
MY DREAM CAR
“Definitely a Lamborghini of some sort - maybe the Lamborghini Murcielago? In white, with black wheels and red leathers, convertible. Phwoar! Lamborghinis, they just do it for me! I was thinking of getting a Lamborghini instead of a Bentley, but the thing is with Lamborghinis, they’re kinda like a weekend car. I don’t really think you can drive them every day. But with Bentleys, at least you can sort of get away with driving them almost every day. So I’ll hold off from that and maybe get that later.”
HOW I DRIVE
“I’m a nutter! Especially in my new baby Bentley...she’s 560 brake horsepower, and does zero to sixty in 4.2 seconds. So I’ve been having a lot of fun. I sometimes go on cruises - I haven’t been on one for ages, but last year I used to go quite a lot, in Essex near Lakeside, with a bunch of boy racers and that. We’d go for a long drive and then go to another spot where there was like a half-mile road where we used to race and get our Too Fast And Furious on.”
CRASH!
“I was in an accident but I wasn’t driving. It was two in the morning and my friend bust a red light at a crossroad. He’d had a few drinks - I don’t know what he was thinking. Anyway, as he bust the red light, we went right in the middle of one those big dustbin trucks that collect the rubbish!Fucking hell; the lorry was driving over us, but it stopped right in time. We got out of the car, and this guy came up to us and was like, “You’re the fucking luckiest guys in the world!” But I’ll never ever forget that; I’ve still got the pictures on my phone. So yeah, don’t drink and drive.”
BEST DRIVING MUSIC
“Real aggressive, hard, energetic music... some Lethal Bizzle - my music is just full of energy, so my music would be a good tip. Personally, I’m a real hip-hop guy, so I love my old-school Dre, Snoop and Wu-Tang Clan. Maybe some dance music too... I’ve got some odd CDs; you might find some Klaxons, or even the odd bit of Daft Punk; even really diverse music like Nirvana or some Arctic Monkeys. But if I’m gonna pull up outside a club and get some attention then it would probably be a Dre track. His bass lines just compliments...It’s like he’s mastered his beats for cars. His music sounds amazing in cars. You can hear anyone coming from a mile away if they’re playing Dr. Dre records. When you pull up in the car, you can hear that this guy’s got style.”
