Iceland Airwaves 2010

One of Clash’s favourite events is upon us, the time of the year where we erupt in a cloud of exotic music, stone wall classic legends, gregarious hedonism and weird booze: its Reykjavik’s biggest party – Iceland Airwaves - and Clash are in the thick of it!

We’ve been give the honour of sponsoring the main stage at the city’s art gallery which will be hammered on Saturday 16th October by the likes of Robyn, Bombay Bicycle Club, Bang Gang and Timber Timbre.

For those who aren’t deterred by the odd volcanic explosion then airwaves is for you as every band in Iceland descend on the capital to sonically battle it out with the cream of the crop of international legends and the hyped huddle of recent releases.

From France they’ve booked Chateau Marmont, Gablé and Mondkopf. From the UK expect Everything Everything, Factory Floor James Blake, Rolo Tomassi, Ramadanman, Teeth, Wild Geese, Yunioshi and Walls. Across the pond the US sees their musical children of Neon Indian, Yuni in Taxco whilst Canada delivers Timber Timbre and Diamond Rings. For the first time ever they have acts from Greece - Film and from Greenland - Nive Nilsen. From their Nordic cousins Marius, Moddi, Vuk and My Buba & Mi. and this is just the start, there’s loads that we don’t have room to mention.

However often the real treat comes from the locals who are up top the hilt in one of the most dense music scenes in the world. So from the home turf expect sizzling sets from such colourful characters as: Angist, Apparat Organ Quartet, Benny Crespo's Gang, Deep Jimi and The Zep Creams, Feldberg, Hafdís Huld, Kimono, Klink, Ólafur Arnalds,Sometime, Jónas Sigurðsson, Króna, Foreign Monkeys and Wisteria.
