Exclusive: Oasis speak to Clash

Manchester legends interviewed, exclusive to Clash
_original

Clash has been spending quality time with one of the most important British bands of the past decade and a half: Oasis.

We enjoyed time in the company of the fab four – Liam and Noel Gallagher, of course, as well as Gem Archer and Andy Bell – who talked us through the making of their latest album, ‘Dig Out Your Soul’ (released October 6).

"Oasis is a spirit - it goes where it wants"

Feast your eyes on our exclusive interview and feature content – including a retrospective summary of the band’s most-glorious ascent to superstardom – in the new issue of Clash magazine, in stores from October 2. Find extended interviews with the four members HERE. In the meantime, here are some highlights from our time with the Manchester titans…

Liam Gallagher on what Oasis is…

“Oasis is a spirit – it goes where it wants. If you want to be a part of it or not, it drags you fuckin’ in, and it soon wakes you up if you’re half asleep. We’re a top band, man, one of the best bands ever. Not the best – there’s no such thing – but we’re fuckin’ up there.”

Noel Gallagher on the promotional machine…

“We’re inherently lazy, you know what I mean? We wanna be getting pissed half the time, and the other fuckin’ time we want to be getting fuckin’ high. I’m not arsed about going to see some fat c*nt and his fat kids and his fat record shop in fuckin’ Fatsville, USA… What the fuck do I care about him?”

Gem Archer on being intimidated by Noel…

“I used to be, but I’ve always had that thing of you can’t prize yourself out of the game – you’ve just got to get over yourself. But now? No, I’m not intimidated – I’m kind of fired up by it, in a way.”

Andy Bell on Oasis as a team effort…

“It’s definitely a team, but a team that’s got a definite leader. Noel definitely steers it. You’ve gotta have someone like that, I think, otherwise you end up a mess. I think we’ve got a properly focused sense of direction, but with that there’s a lot of freedom, and there’s a lot of creative expression on all sides. It’s good.”
