Dj Mix Podcast Series - Flore

Though deservedly renowned for its electro and hip hop scenes, other varieties of electronic aural goodness can be harder to track down in France. Stepping up to provide these essentials is Lyon resident Flore, who also happens to be providing this week’s exclusive Clash DJ mix.

Cutting her teeth playing drum and bass records, Flore then began dabbling in France’s breakbeat scene, with successful results. She then started releasing her own material before settling on her very own mashup style – for a fitting comparison, look to Bassnectar (massively important disclaimer: that’s Bassnectar NOT Basshunter. If you’ve never heard of the latter go and buy a lottery ticket as your luck is very much in), who also makes an appearance in her marvellous mix.

Speaking of which, Flore’s exclusive mix dips its toes into breaks, bassline, ragga, dancehall, jungle and kuduro (courtesy of some Buraka Som Sistema remixes), to name but a few, proving that she knows exactly how to cut it when it comes to beats and bass.

Also wisely included in the mix are both tracks from her own recent double a-side, ‘We Rewind’ and ‘The Test’, as well as a great remix of ‘We Rewind’ which evolves into a fine slice of bassy, clubby, goodness, exploring the harder (read: “better”) side of breakbeat, proving a fitting taster for her debut album ‘RAW’, released in October.
