Disco Bloodbath - El Morro

For the Bacardi Pioneers project
Disco Bloodbath - El Morro
What happens when you place two members of a London-based electro party collective on a lush Caribbean island for a week, with Mojitos aplenty and a lot of inspiration? ‘El Morro’, that’s what.

The track is Disco Bloodbath’s stylised interpretation of the rumba, after soaking up the culture and sounds of Puerto Rico for a week.

Retaining DBB’s distinctive wonky disco vibe, ‘El Morro’ opens with an infectious off-kilter tribal percussion kick that melts into a mass of swirling John Carpenter-esque synth stabs, underpinned by a rock-solid dancefloor beat that refuses to be ignored.

The result is six minutes of decadent electro – stylishly retro in nature but also full of thoroughly contemporary references the UK house and nu-disco scenes, and the Latin flavours of Puerto Rico’s rich musical heritage.

In essence, ‘El Morro’ will sound equally at home blasting from an East London basement soundsystem or hazily floating from a radio in a Caribbean rum-shack.
