19. The Wants
Best Of 2010 Albums - The Phantom Band

This time last year we warned you to expect the unexpected from The Phantom Band, one of our favourite newcomers in 2009. And what do you know, we were right! ‘The Wants’ is a raft of surprises that delights at every given opportunity; a melting pot of sounds, styles and magical ingredients. ‘A Glamour’ sets the scene for the album: a dark, menacing stomp with sinister noises and Rick Anthony’s somber baritone bearing down upon it. The Glasgow group’s mélange of electronic edginess and Caledonian folk produces music as mysterious and evasive as their name suggests. Which deserves another warning: this album will blow your mind.

Best Bit: If Animal Collective collaborated with MGMT, they’d get ‘Walls’.
