Vans Anniversary: Van Doren Approved

The brand just dropped a bold new line-up to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

How does Vans’ founder Paul Van Doren like his footwear, you might wonder of a Monday afternoon? Well, if his taste bears any resemblance to his son, Steve Van Doren’s, something like the above probably isn’t far off.

The latest drop to celebrate the skate brand’s 50th anniversary, the ‘Van Doren Approved’ collection boasts a palette and aesthetic handpicked by Mr Van Doren Jr himself, which ultimately makes for an authentic and personal vibe to proceedings.

“I had the pleasure of creating this collection,” he confirms in the accompanying press notes, “(it) honours some unique heritage prints, which date back to the 70’s and 80’s.” The label’s original DIY spirit is similarly referenced, as patterns are merged together and clashes made a thing of.

Raiding the archive, the shoes, pictured above (and elsewhere a series of apparel pieces) redefine classic Vans prints like the checkerboard and aloha leaf, while models include the Sk8-Hi 38 reissue, the Era 95 Reissue and the Slip-On 98.
