The Damned: Neuw Denim AW14

The Belgium label is inspired by 1970's LA for AW14.

Hailing from Nieuwlandstraat, Brussels, Neuw Denim falls somewhere in-between the Urban Outfitters' Urban Renewel section and Faustine Steinmetz’s reinterpreted denim pieces, or at least that’s what founder Pär Lundqvist would have you believe, with the introduction penned in the latest look book.

“This is where I began to tailor and alter vintage pieces from my denim archive and where the idea of Vintage Revision was born,” it reads.

In fact, Neuw jeans are nothing like the vintage and couture pieces produced by the others, instead bearing a stronger resemblance to modern Scandinavian brands. For AW14 however, 1970’s LA was the source of inspiration.

Titled ‘The Damned’, the new collection explores the city’s punk scene, presenting a version of both the decadence and the gritty spirit experienced in the era. Translated to the clothes, this means rope dyed fabrics and wash down shades, adorned with a raw edge.

Instagram does its bit for the label’s punk credentials too, with lip tattoos brandishing the Neuw name just about all Clash could focus on…
