Arabella Blanche Genevieve Howard is the ultimate fangirl. Bella Howard – as you’ll know her – likes listening to bands, photographing bands, and as luck would have it, is friends with bands too (plus her sister works at Luv Luv Luv Records, but we think you already got the message).
She started the fanzine 'Bybellazine' while at school, interviewing the cream of the then indie crop (Interpol and Kings of Leon amongst them), and today shoots both music and fashion, likewise for both editorial and commercial projects.
Her whimsical thoughts have their own Twitter account – Bella’s Brain – and she continues to use Blogger as opposed to Tumblr, while so many of her peers have transferred their accounts to the latter.
Clash caught up with the self confessed Fezzie Queen to chat cameras, colours and when Bybellazine will be back in our lives.
What was the first camera you ever owned?
An unbranded plastic kids 35mm. I got given it on my 6th birthday and did photoshoots with my My Little Ponies and Barbies.
Film or digital?
Film, its the real deal. When I use digi I'm purely trying to replicate my film shots.
Who’s been your favourite person to shoot for Clash and why?
Bryan Ferry for all the obvious reasons, LEGEND.
Musicians or models?
Either or really, with musicians you’re kinda working around their personality and style, with models you’re creating more of a character for the story you’re shooting.
What was the last gig you went to?
Swim Deep at Boardmasters in Newquay; the sun was shining and it was overlooking the sea. D-Reeeem.
You’re a big festival fan, what’s been your highlight of the summer so far?
Glastonbury was incredible it was my 3rd time and was the best one yet. All the people I love in one of the most spiritual places in the world with a great soundtrack.
Print or online?
Print, always! I like to have something I can hold, online seems so throwaway.
What’s your favourite colour?
Who or what would you most like to shoot and why?
Eastern Europe; I'm desperate to do a road trip and visit really out of the way places to see the architecture and shoot documentary style pics of the people who live in the incredible old Soviet style buildings.
Where will you be next Thursday?
In London, I have a meeting. I will then most likely be trying to decide if I should go to Reading fest or Carnival and what to wear. (Bella subsequently went to Reading but forgo Carnival for Yorkshire).
Favourite place in the world?
My home in Yorkshire.
Will Bybellazine be making another appearance soon?
If I get a free moment to do it, but I have been thinking about it a lot recently.
