Some 26 years after the founding of the house, SS14 sees Maison Martin Margiela collaborate with MYKITA on a capsule collection that merges the creative concepts behind the two labels.
Sharing the former’s interest in reinterpretation and experimentation, the German eyewear label first began talks with the Maison over a year ago in March 2013, but it’s only recently that the finished product has been deemed ready for public attention and a worldwide release.
“MYKITA and Maison Martin Margiela are kindred creative minds and we are very excited about establishing a radical, new eyewear collection together that reflects the synergies of both houses,” the Berlin based team have said.
Meanwhile on the subject of eyewear – first debuted in 2009 – the latter decides: “Now seems the right time for Margiela to take the next step by creating an even more distinctive and complete optical range. Edgy, talent- ed and creative, Mykita's DNA so perfectly aligns with the Maison's philosophy.”
Naturally the two teams approached the collection in similar ways (read: with simplicity and craft as king), producing ‘Essential’ and ‘Dual’, available in 6 and 4 unisex styles respectively.
