Following where Christopher Kane and J.W. Anderson have led, M.I.A. is the latest collaborator to wrap Donatella around her little finger, metaphorically of course.
The pairing – M.I.A. x Versus Versace – is the house’s second partnering this year, following the Italian label’s reshaping earlier in 2013.
While Kane worked with a brand following its older sister’s lead, the Irishman, and now the rapper, has collaborated with a digital friendly Versus; a GIF campaign is to follow.
Taking her inspiration from what she knows, M.I.A.’s 19-piece collection looks to the street and the rip offs that plague Ebay today.
The more-Versace-than-Versace style shirts, jeans and dresses – in the brightest, blingiest prints – are refreshed and further exaggerated for the brand. The album sleeve for the rapper’s second album ‘Kala’ is also vaguely referenced in print form.
Photographer Jaime Martinez is responsible for the aforementioned campaign, plus the images above, all shot on the east London markets from which Maya’s early knockoffs originated.
The range is available in store and online from the 16th October.
