A fortnight ago Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida presented their SS15 collection to a front row almost completely clad in their wares, as too, did numerous other designers throughout London Fashion Week; the duo’s denim jacket sans collar was a prominent hit.
As of next week, the Portuguese pair will expand their offering, as the Marques ‘ Almeida label collaborates with Topshop on a new capsule collection, the high street brand’s biggest yet, heading into 68 stores across the world, including the online shopping platform, Net-a-Porter.
“Marques ‘ Almeida have given the Topshop girl a window into their super cool world,” suggests the brand’s Creative Director, Kate Phelan. “This collection brings everything that is modern and fresh about the design duo. ‘90s, grunge and youth are referenced and the Marques ‘ Almeida signature look is brought together perfectly.”
Translated this means their trademark frayed denim, faux fur and ribbed knits a la AW14, bright coloured silk georgette and taffeta in reference to SS14, leathers and awkward ‘90s shoe styles; textures, themes and palettes that have thus far provided a winning formula for the Fashion East alumni.
“This collaboration with Topshop was one of the most fun things we’ve worked on,” announced the pair. “We’ve always focused our research around teenagers and what we call the ‘youth code’ of dressing since we started the brand, working on this collection meant we could go back and dig deep into those archives.”
Known for the personal touch they execute as a brand – read, here – the collection sees Marta and Paulo further this, noting Marta’s sister Sofia as a key influence, while Marques also shot the accompanying imagery, above, featuring Sofia and a group of her friends.
“We can’t wait to see the end result in stores and online!” they say.
68 pieces form the collection, which is available from Thursday 9th October.
