Jonathan Saunders For Lyle & Scott

As it celebrates its 140th anniversary, the knitwear brand teams up with the king of colour.

Forever a sucker for loud colour and graphic patterns, the news that Jonathan Saunders is to collaborate with Lyle & Scott doesn’t cause surprise so much as joy.

His first menswear leanings – several looks within his AW11 womenswear collection – were doused with pattern heavy knits, a theme which continued with his first full men’s line in 2012 right up to his latest, SS14 collection.

And now the Glasgow born (and Glasgow School of Art educated) designer is bringing in the big guns, teaming up with the British knitwear label for his AW14 offerings.

Debuting at January’s London Collections: Men event alongside Saunders’ main collection, the collaborative range totals 28 pieces and features Royal Warranted, made in Scotland knitwear plus merino wool layers made in Italy, and Harrington golf styles.

The definitive Lyle & Scott logo remains, with one of four different coloured eagles branding each piece.

It makes for a rather superb start to the label’s 140th anniversary, which 2014 marks.
