Gosha Rubchinskiy: Eau de Toilette

The designer/photographer/film maker makes his fragrance debut.

The concept of designer fragrances outdates even those fronted by celebrities (probably), hence only a handful are properly special objects: Tralala by Meadham Kirchhoff, Kenzo’s Flower, Miu Miu by Miu Miu being amongst those boasting the particular credentials…

Enter Gosha Rubchinskiy, the Russian designer/photographer/film maker, making his fragrance debut tomorrow with the release of his eponymous eau de toilette.

Bottled in a round glass container in homage to historic Russian perfumes, the concept behind the fragrance mirrors Rubchinskiy’s design aesthetic, as the release notes suggest: skateboarding on a summer day. Wheels burning on the hot concrete sidewalk. The smells of rubber and tar colliding to create a scent of youth and freedom.

The latest development in his partnership with Comme des Garcons (the company has manufactured and distributed Rubchinskiy since 2012), the new scent boasts notes of Angelica Root and Mandarin Seed, while the launch is accompanied by a photography title, the Perfume Book.

Arriving at Dover Street Market this weekend – the shop has the London exclusive – and simultaneously launching in the Paris Trading Museum and Comme des Garcons Perfume shop (Rei Kawabuko’s brand alone has 75 fragrances to its name), the scent lands in New York and Ginza in November, with a full release scheduled for January.
