Designers relationships with denim vary massively. Where Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida can lay claim to reevaluating the fabric’s whole reputation within the industry, for example, Simone Rocha and Christopher Kane prefer instead to get their fix by hooking up with the big guns.
Italian designer Giambattista Valli falls in the latter category, as the second drop of his 7 For All Mankind collection clarifies. “Denim fascinates me as I am naturally drawn to exploring new grounds," he reasons.
The man behind Riri’s first meme sprouting frock of the year (rewind to the pink number she owned at the Grammy’s in February), here he swaps taffeta and lace for the hard stuff.
Described as ‘a collision of contemporary and couture’, the new 7 For All Mankind collection is comprised of fantastic bold flares, bright coloured skinnies and casual roll ups.
“I used denim as a canvas onto which to project my vision, thinking of a decidedly young, multicultural clientele of glamorous Valli girls,” confirms the designer. “I worked both on shapes and fabrics, delivering jeans with a strong identity, quite unique for cut and treatment.”
