Fashion Round Up: 17/01

Clash plays catch up with the week’s most fashionable headlines (or something to that effect).

The eight finalists of the H&M Design Award 2014 were released this week, with Eddy Anemian, Camilla Blasé Woodman, Jia HUa, Devon Halfnight Leflufy, Xiao Li, Lina Michal, Sophie Salekari and Henriette Tilanus all named as recipients of a €5,000 cash prize.

The winner, to be announced later this month in the brand’s hometown of Stockholm, will go on to win €50,000 as well as having their collection presented as part of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Stockholm on the 28th.

On Tuesday Nike confirmed that they had signed with Givenchy’s Creative Director Riccardo Tisci for a new collaboration.

Not launched ‘til spring, the designer is set to create a footwear line with the heavyweight brand.

In the wake of their SS14 collection that used sea life as a starting point for wave like lines and ocean prints, this week Kenzo designs Carol Lim and Humberto Leon officially announced a partnership with marine protection specialists The Blue Marine Foundation.

“We wholeheartedly support their mission in creating sustainable fishing and creating marine reserves,” the pair said in a statement.  “We are extremely excited about this long term partnership between Kenzo and The Blue Marine Foundation and hope to create more and more awareness to this issue.”

And lastly, on Wednesday it was reported that Paul Smith has taken on Jonathan Saunders to consult on his womenswear line, though no official statement has yet been given.

Most recently Saunders has collaborated with knitwear label Lyle & Scott – debuted alongside his AW14 collection during London Collections: Men – while an exhibition about Smith and his label opened last year at the Design Museum.
