Barbie By Sophia Webster: Dolled Up

And Kali Uchis fronts the campaign.

Previously dressed by the likes of Nasir Mazhar, Sibling and Sadie Williams, Barbie’s fashion credentials continue to develop this season as she puts her name to a new collaboration with shoe designer Sophia Webster.

In celebration of the 56 year old doll’s flat shoe debut – frankly about time – the new hook up boasts both IRL dolls, as well as a nine piece human sized collection (!).

Comprised of six adult styles (heels, trainers and sandals all in) as well as three mini me kids versions, the new line-up sees Webster reimagine her most definitive styles in Barbie’s cerise tinted world.

“Creating a shoe collection for Barbie has always been my dream project,” notes the designer, “but getting to be a part of her embracing flats for the first time made it extra exciting, and deeply personal. I love that this concept strikes a balance between dreams and reality – the idea of getting Barbie in some hi-tops and setting her loose in east London instantly appealed.”

Webster tapped Colombian born Virginia raised singer Kali Uchis to immortalise, sort of, 2015 era Barbie, shot above by Charlotte Rutherford. “To me, Barbie has always been a woman that could be and do anything,” explains Uchis. “I think the collaboration is so impactful – a message for young girls to remain strong and love themselves in a society that’s constantly telling them not to.”

Naturally there’s an accompanying film, ‘Dolled Up’, shot by Fashion East favourite Sharna Osbourne, the production for which includes WAH Nails on, ahem, nails and long time Sophia Webster collaborator Louby McLoughlin on styling duties; Kali’s ‘Ridin Round’ soundtracks, while Webster herself makes a cameo behind the counter. Elsewhere Rinse FM girls Emerald Rose Lewis, Yinka Bokini, Yasmin and Maya Jama make up the Kali Uchis posse.

Watch it above, and prepared to get well jel (we did).
