Ashley Williams x RED OR DEAD: #MakingMovies

The NEWGEN newbie hooks up with a 90's fave.

Ashley Williams is the ultimate RED OR DEAD accomplice,” suggests the brand’s Creative Director, Katie Greenyer. “Her spirited creative energy, cultural awareness and Brit sense of humour perfectly reflect RED OR DEAD’s core values, and our heritage in the youth fashion movement.”

Ashley presumably feels the same way, as the pair has hooked up for a two-season collaboration, kicked off last Sunday.

Making its first appearance at London Fashion Week in a decade, shoes by Wayne Hemingway’s label accompanied each of the 24 looks that walked Williams’ debut solo show, adding a grown up vibe to the predominantly youthful affair.

Titled #MakingMovies, the range – set to launch exclusively at Schuh next February – is made up of pointed monochrome leather and transparent vinyl kitten heels, inspired by Read or Dead’s back catalogue circa 1990, ’94 and 2004; further colourways and flat alternatives will be available come 2015.

Styles go by names like ‘Dusk’, ‘Zuburbz’ (appointed key motif across the clothing collection), ‘Fifteen’ and ‘Plaza’, each an ode to the faux movie titles and drawings printed on several of Ashley’s Spring Summer pieces (see the review here).

A retro themed clip (above) accompanies the release, starring intern turned model supremo – walking for both Ashley Williams and Meadham Kirchhoff – cute as pie Daisy Davidson. Set to Dire Straits’ ‘Making Movies’, but of course, the short is typical of the Ashley Williams aesthetic and all the better for it.

‘For the girl who lives her life through movies’ they say; and the rest, we plead.
