Self-referencing is a vehicle long employed by the fashion industry to win over new fans and pay tribute to those who’ve been in on a brand since the start (those Gucci sweats, anyone?), so the decision by adidas Spezial to return to the Mod Trefoil emblem used in the line’s initial 2014 instalment is nothing more than a good thing.

An acknowledgement, according to the accompanying press notes, of the fans who’ve since used the logo on DIY football banners, this season it returns as the key detail, apparent throughout the collection.

Modelled by Wolf Gillespie (the Primal Scream frontman’s teen offspring and owner of a strong brace game), and shot by the infamous Nick Knight, elsewhere the collection dabbles with the graphic language of Ivan Lendl (aka Coach Murray)’s signature tennis range, similarly nodding to the sports label’s mainline back catalogue.

Translated to product this reads as a keen focus on navy with hints of grey and khaki, 70’s erring zip up track tops and a strong line up of jackets boasting contemporary led silhouettes; tracky bottoms and trainers also get a look in, the Indoor Super SPZL, GT Manchester SPZL, Harwood SPEZL and Mounfield SPZL comprising the latter.
