The Brute Chorus

East London based headliners, The Brute Chorus, who hail from the West Country, Cumbria, Co Durham and Sellafield, came to London from the four corners of the land to pursue their interests at music college in Greenwich. They’ve been combining garage, blues and folk music with a scatology of Biblical stories, nursery rhymes and fairy tales since March 2007and after a month long residency at Camdens Hawley Arms in summer 2008, released their debut single “Chateau/The Cuckoo & The Stolen Heart” on the pubs label, Bumpman Originals. Following the release of the single “She Was Always Cool” they found themselves as Myspace Features Artists, winning Steve Lamacqs Rebel Playlist on BBC 6Music and Zane Lowes Fresh Meat on BBC Radio1. The Brute Chorus blasted into 2009 with an NME (9/10) and Radio 1 single of the week, a co-headline UK tour and an imminent debut album, recorded live in front of an audience, in one take.

"It's not rockabilly, it's not alt. country, it's not new wave, it's not the blues but there's elements of all in their sound ..." Steve Lamacq, BBC6

The Bookhouse Boys

“Grimy 50's glamour, spaghetti-goth, gutter-surf, rollicking gonzo-punk and sleazily-alluring” are some of the terms been used to describe London nonet, The Bookhouse Boys. With a name presumably taken from the secret society in Twin Peaks, the Surf/ Alternative nonet state their influences to include David Lynch, flamenco, soundtracks, The Stooges, Scott Walker and Violent Femmes, but express themselves as being “All and everything yet nothing like the above”. Their dynamic live sets incorporate two vocalists, stand-up drums, trumpets and Doo-Wop style vocals set to a Spaghetti-Western style/ Tarantino-esque soundtrack. Signed to independent label Black Records, their debut album “The Bookhouse Boys” (2008) received rave reviews and in December 08, became the first band to do an Artrocker TV/ Live recording session.

“Music this intense, passionate and sensual demands to be heard by a wider audience.” – Nic Oliver

“This nine-piece London band doesn't stray too far from the blueprint, but they attack their material with vigour. The sheer scale of the band will provide a louche cabaret atmosphere; only the smoking ban, perhaps, will cramp their style”- John Robinson, The Guardian
