Yeah Yeah Yeahs

N.Y. art noise types

In 2001 Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Junior wore a pin badge of his favourite band while being interviewed on American TV. That band was the little heard New York noiseniks Yeah Yeah Yeahs. In the media feeding frenzy surrounding the release of ‘Is This It’, the badge took on a wider significance, catapulting the trio from the dirty backstreets of America’s cultural capital into the world’s spotlight. Almost a decade on, and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs remain one of the most exciting bands on the planet. Channeling the spirit of Siouxie Sioux, the style of Debbie Harry and -of course- that stunning voice, the trio's leader Karen O was a pop star-in-waiting long before she even opened her mouth. Backed by one of the best rock guitarists in the land thanks to punk pixie Nick Zinner and the stunning rhythms of all-round music obsessive Brian Chase, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs remain so cool they don't even need a bassist. From their early days crafting a melting pot of frenzied new-wave and disco-punk on 'Fever To Tell' to the band's recently released, synth-driven third 'It's Blitz!', YYY's have been continually forging their own path and reinventing their sound. The mark of longevity for any band, we're sure you'll agree.
