A band formed around mercurial guitar talent Vini Reilly, Durutti Column took their name (in typically post punk fashion) from an anarchist brigade in the Spanish Civil War. Signed to Factory Records, the band released several records during the 80s which were critically well received but failed to shift many units. Durutti Column is one of the few bands to have successfully navigated the world beyond Factory, and Reilly still writes and records under this name.
