Moderat
Thankfully, Moderat - the project title and album name of a much-anticipated collaboration between Modeselektor and Apparat - falls firmly into the whisky and ginger ale camp. And then some. While many of you will already be familiar with the mighty Modeselektor, if you haven’t yet encountered solo artist Sascha Ring, AKA Apparat, you’re missing out. His dreamy, instrument-led take on electronica is the perfect complimentary element to the harder glitchy edge of Modeselektor’s Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary.
The resulting sound flits between shimmering Boards Of Canada tech-hop and skittish industrial techno, also claiming its fair share of vocals and guest MCs. Though notably different from what either act has done before, it is also the logical culmination of two distinct sounds, full of moody, atmospheric textures, interspersed with slithers of heavy, acidic bass. A marvellous combination, but one that also piques the curiosity.
