Jimmy Screech

He’s done a set for Trojan Soundsystem. He frequently tours with Roots Manuva, Ghostface Killer and Ugly Duckling. He’s even collaborated with Tippa Irie. Ladies and Gentlemen, bow down for Jimmy Screech, the latest addition in reggae royalty. Growing up in the 80’s in South London had a big influence on Jimmy in a number of ways. It made him believe in hard work, seeing that to have success in life he would have to put in a lot of effort. It also inspired him musically, hearing Tippa Irie and Poppa Levi blasted out of stereos and open-air sound systems, LL Cool J and Run DMC wowing him with their loud American fashion sense. He wanted to escape to something better, away from the world of gangs he’d grown up in. He tried every way he could think of to get noticed, eventually being signed to independent label Grinnin Records where he was mentored by Mikey McLean. This led him to be spotted by Roots Manuva in 2005, his rare song writing and vocal skills impressing their management team so much that he was asked to perform on tour with them. This stroke of luck launched him onto a touring circuit with various rap and reggae celebrities, playing prestigious venues like Club Lune in Monpellier, as well as Serbia and Jamaica, the cultural home of his sound. During this time he ended up collaborating with his inspiration, the Grammy nominated Tippa Irie. During 2008 the firmly established reggae-rap artist joined Roots Manuva on their ‘Slime and Reason’ tour, playing Shepherds Bush Empire and the Oxford Academy to name but a few landmark establishments. As well as undertaking massive commitments in the form of these frequent tour dates, Jimmy has been busy in the studio, with single ‘Scandalous’ featuring on the iTunes ‘Best of 2009’, and ‘Let’s Get Moving’ set to take Britain by storm. Prepare yourselves - Jimmy Screech's new sound will blow you away.
