David Axelrod

American Soul and Jazz recording legend

Nicknamed ‘The Maestro’, Axelrod was born in LA in 1936. He came to prominence as a famed Capitol Records studio engineer, performing alchemical sonic feats with jazz and soul artists. Yet his talents have endured from cool jazz in the 1950s through to hip-hop in the new millennium, as DJ Shadow and various other crate-diggers dusted off his elaborate and near baroque breaks for their own creative purposes, as well as inviting him to collaborate with them, as U.N.K.L.E. have.
