Beat The Radar

Manchester indie foursome

Beat The Radar
Jonny: Vocals Laurie: Guitar Rowan: Bass / Backing Vocals Adam: Drums “Fuck looking like a fashionista: this is indie music as it’s meant to be... they mean every word.” The Fly Comprising Jonny on vocals plus Laurie Hulme (guitar) Rowan Smith (bass) and Adam Featherstone (drums), Beat The Radar hail from “the scummy edges of the Lake District.” Formed while studying in Lancaster, the foursome relocated to Manchester in 2008 to be part of the city that launched the bands that shaped them, from New Order to The Fall, The Smiths and The Stone Roses (plus a little unrelated REM, Mission of Burma, Pavement, Sebadoh and Sonic Youth). By virtue of their outsider status, their sound is far from that of your average Manchester band, more a Cribs-like rabble in which big tunes and heart means more than posturing and polish. This is not your over-styled, too-cool-for-school indie band. “We actually spend time focusing on writing some proper tunes rather than our haircuts,” says Jonny. MySpace
