London singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse was as well-known in the tabloids as the music press. Born to a Jewish family in London with a rich Jazz heritage, Winehouse was expelled from the Sylvia Young theatre school before entering the music on her own terms.
Her debut album "Frank" was nominated for a Mercury, before "Back To Black" became a trans-atlantic sensation with her personal life hitting the headlines.
Following some disastrous live appearances in early 2011, Winehouse was found dead at home on 23rd July.
