Melody Klyman

Hear 'Sovereign'

Kate Bush takes over songwriting and vocal duties for Bat for Lashes and employs the Prodigy / Unkle producer. Bush for Lashes. This didn’t happen, but Melody Klyman can more than satisfy those who wish it would.

Not many debut albums can boast the amount of experience Melody Klyman offers on her new record ‘Sovereign’. The Canadian born, UK based singer/songwriter began learning classical piano from the tender age of 6. Fourteen years later she was wrapping up an energetic tour with a small Canadian indie band and reading through the finer details of a solo record deal. The major label deal was the proverbial poison chalice for Melody and her creative freedom was massively oppressed by her new managers. After a short time as a label puppet, she ripped the strings from her arms and followed the club scene lure of the UK. Operating under various pseudonyms, Melody received critical acclaim within the UK and found herself picking up a golden disc following upbeat performances with Deee-Lite, Gabrielle and various dance producers.

Don’t expect ‘Groove is in the Heart’ when sampling the new solo work however. It is much more personal and really symbolises an artist who has broken free from the chains, with the post punk and balladic influences of the Cocteau twins and This Mortal Coil. All this is polished and framed by a celestial production sound devised by the aforementioned Prodigy producer, Glen Nicholls.
