Matthew Herbert – Bodily Functions

One of house music’s benchmark LPs just got a new haircut

One of house music’s benchmark LPs just got a new haircut. And if you count thirteen new remixes as essential accessories then ‘Bodily Functions’ just got a fresh wardrobe modelled by Jamie Lidell, Plaid, Richard Devine and Matmos. If you missed this eleven years ago and consistently failed to catch up then get the fuck involved. Organic, jazz inflected house vibes rule here and it features Herbert’s most enduring moment ‘The Audience’, with vocals from ex-wife Dani Siciliano and a proto-Noisette Shingai Shoniwa. Matmos even impossibly attempt to remix this. They don’t fail, but perfection is rarely remodelled by a gay couple who forge techno from cow placenta. In San Francisco.
