“Manchester, so much to answer for” as The Smiths once sang. In the case of Parklife, though, it’s all positive. One of the foremost weekend music events in the country, the festival has grown remarkably over the past three years. Housed in Platt Fields, Parklife veers from electronic to indie, hip hop to country tinged songcraft.
2012 saw more than its fair share of spectacular moments, with Johnny Marr arriving onstage to jam with Chic and The Flaming Lips reminding everyone why they’re so revered. Clash partnered the Now Wave arena which across the weekend boasted performances from The Rapture, Mount Kimbie, Gold Panda, Crystal Castles, Friends and many more. Set to move location in 2013, the event will once again up capacity as they look to emulate three consecutive sell outs.
Maintaining a commitment to new music, the festival’s inventive approach to social networking has inspired a close relationship with fans. Throw in a cheap, affordable attitude towards ticket pricing and you have an event which is both discerning and accessible. A conduit for one of Britain’s foremost music cities, Parklife Weekender continues to go from strength to strength – long may it reign.
